Cheer Me Up !

Cheer Me Up shawl

Cheer Me Up! is a flattering and sophisticated crescent lace shawl suitable for all types of occasions. I created Cheer Me Up! for my daughter who asked for a lace shawl to go with her favourite dress at a formal event. The shawl turned out to go well with her jeans, sneakers and leather jacket as well.

Sparkling beads are included in the lace. You may omit the beads, if preferred. I chose beads in a nuance harmonizing well with the yarn. If you wish them to be less subtle, choose a contrasting colour, larger beads, or place more beads than suggested in the pattern.

The shawl is knitted in one piece from the outer lace edge. The crescent shape is created by short rows with decreases in the upper stocking stitch section. The lace instructions are given row-by-row both written and in chart.

The design is suitable for knitters with basic knitting skills and a little experience.

Techniques used

  • Decreases: k2tog, ssk, p2tog, centered double decrease
  • Increase: yarn over
  • Placing beads (optional)
  • Short rows

The double decrease, placing beads, and short rows are explained in the pattern.

Sketch with measurements

Finished measurements

Upper width: approx. 135 cm / 53 inches
Center depth: approx. 44 cm / 17 inches

Yarn requirements

1 skein Fyberspates Scrumptious Lace (55% Merino, 45% Silk; 1000 m / 1093 yd per 100 g) in colour #503 Oyster.

If you would like to substitute yarn, I used 360m / 395yds for the sample shawl. Keep in mind that e.g. different gauge and choice of bind off method might affect the yarn requirements.

Even though gauge is not important, a different gauge may change the yarn requirements and the size of the shawl.

15 sts and 25 rows per 10 cm (4 inches) in stocking stitch with 4.5 mm / US 7 needles after blocking.

  • 4.5 mm / US 7 needle
  • 6.5 mm / US 10.5 mm needle for cast on only

Beads (optional)

  • 300 beads size 8/0 or other preferred size
  • Crochet hook that passes through the bead holes, e.g. 0.75 mm / size 14
